What affects the price of a photo session?

Photographers price differently, so a headline number only means something once you know what sits behind it. The things that move a price most are:

  • How long the shoot runs, and how many locations it covers.
  • How many edited images you receive — and whether you also get the unedited originals.
  • Whether styling help, extra people or a second outfit are included.
  • Travel outside the city.

What should you ask any photographer before booking?

  1. How long is the session and how many edited images do I receive?
  2. Do I get the full original images, or only the edited set?
  3. How soon will I receive my photos?
  4. What happens if it rains or I need to reschedule?
  5. Can I use the photos for print, social media and a CV or business profile?

Is a longer session worth it?

For most solo portraits one to two hours is plenty — the first twenty minutes are usually warm-up, and the best frames tend to arrive after that. Families with young children and couples who want two locations benefit most from the extra time.
